PartCTranslation
Translatingstrategy:Scientificandtechnicaltranslation(科技翻译)科技文体崇尚严谨周密,概念准确,逻辑性强,行文简练,重点突出,句式严整,常用前置性陈述,即在句中将主要信息尽量前置,通过主语传递主要信息。
Eg.Therotationoftheearthonitsownaxiscausesthechangefromdaytonight.(名词化结构使复合句简化成简单句,而且使表达的概念更加确切严密。)Eg.Televisionisthetransmissionandreceptionofimagesofmovingobjectsbyradiowaves.(使用名词化结构强调客观事实,尽量避免使用第一、二人称.)
Eg.Attentionmustbepaidtotheworkingtemperatureofthemachine.
Eg.Adirectcurrentisacurrentflowingalwaysinthesamedirection.Eg.Vibratingobjectsproducesoundwaves,eachvibrationproducingonesoundwave.
四、后置定语常见的结构以下四种:1、介词短语Eg.Theforcesduetofrictionarecalledfrictionalforces.2、形容词及形容词短语、副词。 Eg.Theresultsobtainedmustbecheeked.4、定语从句Eg.Duringconstruction,problemsoftenarisewhichrequiredesignchanges.
Eg.full-enclosed全封闭的(双词合成形容词)feed-back反馈(双词合成名词)work-harden加工硬化(双词合成词)Eg.ft(foot/feet)英尺FM(frequencymodulation)调频(用首字母组成的缩略词)TELESAT(telecommunicationssatellite)通信卫星(混成法构成的缩略词)
Let’stranslate:Ifyouusefirebricksroundthewallsoftheboiler,theheatloss,canbeconsiderablyreduced.Attentionmustbepaidtotheworkingtemperatureofthemachine.Radiatingfromtheearth,heatcausesaircurrentstorise.Theforceupwardequalstheforcedownwardsothattheballoonstaysatthelevel.Themoleculesexertforcesuponeachother,whichdependuponthedistancebetweenthem.
Reference:1.

PartCTranslation
Translatingknowledge:Multiplication
1.AisNtimesasgreat(long,much,…)asB.AisNtimesgreater(longer,more,…)thanB.AisNtimesthesize(length,amount,…)ofB.
3.ThereisaN-foldincrease/growth…
4.double(增加1倍),treble(增加2倍),quadruple(增加3倍)。5. Aisasmuch(large,long,…)againasB.=Aistwiceasmuch(large,long,…)asB.
Applytheknowledge:1.Mydesktopcomputeristhreetimesasheavyasmylaptopcomputer.2.Thestudentsinthisuniversityarethreetimesmorethanthoseinthatuniversity.3.Theintensityoftheimpactis11timesthemomentumchanges.
Applytheknowledge:1.
基本公式:“减少了”或“减少到”N-1N1N句型:1.AisNtimesassmall(light,slow,…)asB.AisNtimessmaller(lighter,slower,…)thanB.
2.…decreaseNtimes/N-fold…decreasebyNtimes…decreasebyafactorofN注:decrease常被reduce,shorten,go/slowdown等词替代。译为:减少到1/N或:减少(N-1)/N3.ThereisaN-folddecrease/reduction…
Applytheknowledge:1.Thepoweroutputofthemachineistwotimeslessthanitsinput.2.Thehydrogenatomisnearly16timesaslightastheoxygenatom.3.TheChinesemovieisonlyhalfaslongastheAmericanmovie.
Applytheknowledge:1. Itisthreetimesaslightascopperwire.Thelightthatburnstwiceasbrightburnshalfaslong.
